By Richard Balthazar
My last sculpture show was called YARDART, a collection of assemblages suitable for outdoor installation. My artist’s statement for it was “I look for found objects that have survived the ravages of time, weather, and/or other mysterious forces and combine them to create new metaphors.” Sometimes it doesn’t even involve combination, though. Certain pieces of junk all by themselves can grab me with their intrinsic “artfulness,” especially if their utilitarian purpose is inscrutable.
You will note that amongst my sculptural oeuvre are several Aztec-inspired pieces. I will not apologize. Like everything else, Art is what it is. See what you think of these works of assembled art.
